Argentina is a land of contrast, high mountains, forests,
wet lands and the Pampas, where the gaucho's herd cattle on
horseback. The Andies Mountains in the west of the country run
from north to south down the lenth of the country, forming the
border with Chile, with heights of 6,000m in the north down to
1,500m in the south. Aconcagua (6,959m) the highest mountain
in South America is to be found here.
Argentina was settled by the Spanish with periodic influxes
of people from other European countries. The country is predominantly
Roman Cathlic and Spanish is the official language. The
transportation system is well developed and all parts of the
country are linked with Buenos Aires, the capital.
Argentine culture, music, litreture and art is strongly
influenced by its emigrees; German, French, Spanish and
Italian. The folk music of Argentina had a strong influence on
the development of the tango, due to the large Italian
population opera is also popular.
Perhaps the best known Argentinian is the legendary
"Evita" Eva Perón; actress and the wife of Jaun
Perón who was elected as president of Argentina in 1946.
Other famous Argentinians include; Juan Manuel Fangio (5 times
Formula 1 World Champion) and Maradonna (one of the great
football players of all times).
Descriptions are never enough as they cannot express the
feel, the sounds or the atmosphere of any place but it is
these that make each destination unique and worth exploring.
