Barcelona
situated on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain is a beautiful city offering art, museums, entertainment, cuisine, beaches and shops for the
traveller. This is a place to relax in warm and comfortable surroundings, with enough tourist attractions to keep everyone busy.
Barcelona is said to have been founded by either the Phoenicians or the Carthaginians, who had trading posts nearby. Once a part of the Roman Empire, it was later occupied by Goths, Moors, and Franks. The city became a great port in the Middle Ages, serving the trade between North Africa and Europe. Its cathedral and other buildings of the Gothic quarter date from that period
Overlooking the city is the hill called Montjuich, topped by a fortress converted into a military museum. On the slopes are fountains and gardens, an amusement park, and several museums. From Montjuich one can view the entire city: the narrow twisted streets and medieval palaces of the Gothic quarter, the tawdry night spots of the Chinese quarter, the straight lines of stately 19th-century houses in the Ensanche (Expansion) west of the old city, and the new apartment buildings on the outskirts. Separating the Gothic and Chinese quarters, broad pedestrian malls called the Ramblas lead toward the
harbour, at the foot of Montjuich
If you want to discover and experience the delights of the most exhilarating and spellbinding Mediterranean city. The most convenient way to travel if you don't want to miss any of the major sights is the Barcelona Bus Turístic.
